Birds, The Devils Spawn

So I mentioned in a previous blog explaining the name for my blog that I love all animals except birds so now I have to explain. Starting off I have to clarify that I am wary around all birds but there are three that I specifically hate/am terrified of, Turkeys, Geese, and Chickens with Turkeys being the ones I am just so terrified of I simply freeze up at the sight of them (great food though, love a good turkey leg). So the fear of Turkeys stems from childhood trauma of being bitten by them multiple times as a child and just a deep seated memory of them just being terrible.

How dos this NOT terrify everyone they are so ugly, their whole throat looks like a prolapsed anus! (another fun story for later for how i know what that looks like). But next is geese, specifically Canadien geese. Karma came for me on this one, I used to chase these birds out of fields and yards my whole childhood. Well one day while on vacation in Virginia when I was about 10-11 I think my dad and I were fishing at a pond. Now it is spring so the geese are currently in mating season so they are very protective of their nest. Anyway, we started fishing daily close to a other and her nest when we first started but she had no issue with us, we made our way around the pond going the opposite direction and have made it to the other side but further away from the nest then we started. As I have my line out there I hear a goose honk getting closer an closer to me and as I turn my head all I see is this goose charging after me in flight like a death angel and I took off away from it throwing my rod in the air as my dad laughed at me from across the pond.

Chickens or more specifically Roosters are an easy explanation as they simply tortured me at this one summer job I had. One rooster that was one of the kind of chickens they used for cock fighting called a Peruvian Rooster did not like humans and if you turned your back on him he was coming after you and was out for blood!

Now I am not scared of these next birds I am going to talk about in this story because this one was so nice and would let me pet it all the time. This is at the same place as the chickens but there was an Emu named Taz who was the calmest nicest bird ever. Now if you don’t know what an Emu is this is the bird you would Think I’d be most afraid of as it is about 4-5 feet tall and its feet could easily gut you with one swift kick.

Now I added this video to show how funny, and nice, and fun loving these birds can be but also to see how big they are as this one is as young one that isn’t fully grown yet. This day I was dealing with the roosters actually so I was stressed enough as it was trying to get them back in the their enclosure after they got out, by myself. But I hearing some rustling up the trail and I look up from dealing with these Roosters and all I see is this bird sprinting full speed towards me and at that moment I accepted my death, I thought this man sized bird was just going to end my life there. Luckily he just hadn’t seen me in front of him and when he did he peeled off down the fork in the trail and I almost just unloaded in my pants as the fear and relief all washed over me and found out of of the owners dogs, a border collie, was chasing Taz as he came up to me and greeted me as I went from accepting death to relieved and happy to see a dog.

This is where my fear of birds has stemmed from and how it has just been built up as years went on and I am sure something will happen again.
